John F. Kennedy was the first presidential candidate to allow a documentary film crew to follow him behind the scenes on the campaign trail. The film Primary, directed by Robert Drew, is a breakthrough in cinema verite filmmaking that captures the battle between JFK and Hubert Humphrey in the Wisconsin primary and changed the way that candidates use film and television. Followed by a discussion about the use of media by presidential campaigns past and present
