"Duke Ellington's Washington" illuminates a young Ellington and the hometown that nurtured him, combining the celebrated past of Washington, DC's black community with its modern revival of rich heritage. The film also spotlights another of Ellington's legacies, – the Ellington School for the Arts – which produces a new stream of talented DC musicians, actors, dancers, and artists of all kinds.
