Calling on her Native American heritage, Grammy nominated Dawn Avery (Mohawk descent) uses her soaring cello lines, sultry voice, and powerful lyrics to tell stories about many shades of love...from Mohawk erotica to songs encompassing all of creation. In her multi-media show, "50 Shades of Red," the hypnotic "downtempo" electronic soundscapes are elevated by Grammy-winning guitarist Larry Mitchell, and interpreted by dancer Ty Defoe (Oneida/Anishinaabe Nations). Boston-based performing songwriter Thea Hopkins, of Aquinnah Wampanoag descent, is inspired by American musical traditions from the bluegrass of the Stanley Brothers to the rich melodies of the Gershwin Brothers. Her cast of characters include dreamers, outlaws, and heroines both Native and non-Native.
