Robin Rio

Robin Rio, MA, MT-BC is a board-certified music therapist, adjunct faculty of music at Virginia Commonwealth University, and emeritus professor of music therapy at Arizona State University. Together with social work professor/flutist Cameron Carter, Rio leads the RVA Street Singers choir and co-teaches the accompanying service-learning course, Music and Social Justice. This choir provides a format for developing community and promoting the health benefits of group singing with those affected by homelessness and their allies in the Richmond community. RVA Street Singers choir rehearsals integrate gentle movement, songwriting and vocal development along with a varied repertoire of uplifting music from faith-based to popular. Robin has been published in Frontiers in Medicine, The Arts in Psychotherapy, Music Therapy Perspectives, and Voices. She authored, Connecting Through Music with People with Dementia: A Guide for Caregivers, and is the owner and music therapy service provider at Rio Music Therapy.
